The Rusyn Language in Vojvodina: Identity and Carpathian Lexical Heritage
This lecture presents the history and development of the Rusyn language in Vojvodina. The aim of the lecture is to present the Rusyn language in Vojvodina as an important part of the Carpathian Rusyn linguistic heritage and identity. It also discusses the migration of Rusyns from the Carpathian area to Vojvodina and the codification of the Rusyn standard language. Special attention is given to the position of Rusyn among Slavic languages and to some important phonological, morphological and lexical features of the Rusyn language in Vojvodina.
The main part of the lecture is focused on Carpathian lexical elements (Carpathianisms), their meanings, origin and distribution in the Carpathian area. The lecture shows that many lexical elements in the Rusyn language preserve connections with the wider Carpathian linguistic and cultural area.
